He states ' that he is informed on high authority ' that in IM6 the Empress Zita desired a divorce, owing to intrigues in which ladies of the Court were involved, but a reconciliation was effected. 6ix months ago she again applied to the papal representative for a divorce, but the Pope disapproved. There is no doubt the Empress is in- - volved in Catholic intriguese. The Empress is prostrated by the reports of the scandals, and it is believed that there is an estrangement between her and the Emperor.—Press Assoc. i PAN-GERMANISiNG THE | GOVERNMENT. r I f VON HINTZE SUPPORTS HERTLING. Received July 14, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, July 12. Von Hintze, interviewed by the Courr ant's Berlin correspondent, denied that . he is Pan-German, but merely a good , German. He would be glad to co- ■ operate with Count von Hertling's pro- ; gramme, which the Reichstag repeatedly . approved. i Annexationist journals claim that von Hintze is nobody's candidate but the Kaiser's. The Vorwaerts states that it is the conviction of the whole world that Baron von Kuhlmann was unshipped in order to Pan-Germanise the Government. —Reuter.
