PERSONAL.

Mr. P. Hilton, accountant for over nine years to the Kaupokonui Dairy Company, died at the Hawera Hospital on "Friday. Mr. J. E. Wilson, BM,, who had been on a brief visit to New Plymouth, left on Saturday morning by the mail train, en route to Auckland.

In the latest hospital progress report appears the names of the following Taranaki men:—Dangerously ill: J. Shaw (New Plymouth). Still dangerously ill: 8. A. Wells (Mangorei). Not severe case: K, T. Parkes (Okaiawa). A military funeral was accorded the remains of Mr. James Dawson (late New Zealand Artillery), who died at his residence at 'St. Kilda on Stfiday (says the Otago Daily Times). The late Mr. Dawson was a member of the Armed Constabulary in Taranaki in the seventies. Subsequently he transferred to the artillery, and went to Otago when the permanent forces were placed there, doing duty as a gunjse7 at Taiaroa Heads, Central, lawyer's Head, and St. Clair batteries. He was at the Heads when the heavy armament was mounted there about 30 years ago. He retired on superannuation 14 years ago, and was in his 68th year at the time of his death. An interesting little function (reports the Star) took iplace on Friday afternoon, at the Winter Show Buildings, | when Mr. L. 0. Hooker, manager and secretary of the show, was (presented by the staff with a shaving outfit, as a mark of appreciation. At the request of the staff, Mr/ B. C. Bennett, one of the directors, made the presentation. He said the present was a tangible expression oi the cordial good feeling existing between Mr. Hooker and his staff, and complimented Mr. Hooker on the excellent arrangements made throughout the show, which had i>een much appreciated by exhibitors and visitors. Mr. Hooker, in thanking the staff for their appreciation, paid a tribute to their work on behalf of the Show.
