The returned .soldiers are holding a ball on Thursday next, and the function promises to bo a great success. A very strong committee has been formed from the ranks of tho returned boys, and the ladies' committee of the Patriotic Soci?ty have charge of the supper arrangements, which is sufficient guarantee that tho "inner man" will be well provided for. The 'school football team is running well in the school competition, Two matches have been played, and both won ■by the local, boys. On Thursday next they journey'to New Plymouth to play Fitzroy. Mr. Ben. Tippens has been approached with a view to taking on the position of inspector for the borough. He is considering it favorably, so owners of stock and motor-cars, take warning. In my Teport of the Bowling Club's annual "meeting, Lister is reported to have, been the donor of the bowls, instead of Leslie. .Mr. H. C. Williams, of the local Post Office, has received notice to transfer. "Gobo" will be greatly missed. He has proved himself a most obliging officer, and taken a very keen interest in sports and most things pertaining to the welfare of the town. He has also been a staunch supporter of St. Andrew's Church. It is understood that Mr. Williams' transfer means considerable promotion. O Class, who have been drawn in the ballot, have received notice to proceed to New Plymouth lor examination on or tvhout the 2Gth.
