Mace, of Oakura, himself a veterans of ffcelKflJ)r"' ri War, and wearing on his breast the New Zealand Cross, made a preseirtstftwa of a gold medal, suitably inscribed, to Sergeant PenwaTden, who was given a great reception on entering the zoom; Captain Mace stated that Sergeant yenwarden, after being in the trenches for six months, met with a fearful wound, which had crippled him for life. He then amid the cheers of the audience, pinned the medal on Sergeant Penwarden, wfcb was unable to rise, and who expressed thanks for the hearty welcome he had received, and also for the handsome- medal, which he would always treasure. - • Captain Mace expressed regret at the; approaching departure fromthe district' of Mr. and Mrs. C. Honeyfield. The Honeyflelds had lived in the district for fifty years, Mr. Honeyfield having been born there. The pioneer settlers had done a lot for the district, and he regretted their departure. People were . < able to say that when the old settlers sold out they got good prices for their land, but it must not be forgotten that they had put in their whole lives on the land, and had been very thrifty. He paid a high tribute to the many sterling qualities of Mr. and Mrs, C. Honeyfield, par-, ticularly referring to Mr. Honeyfieldls high business integrity. He presented. Mrs. Honeyfield with a travelling rug, and Mr. Honeyfield with a case of pipe£. - Mr. Honeyfield suitably acknowledged the gifts. ' ' 4 Excellent music was provided by Mi. Pearson's orchestra, comprising Messrs A. Pearson (piano), F. E. Morris (violin), H. Corkill (cello), B. Vinson (drum, etc.). Extras were played by Miss Corbett ami Mrs. Were. Mr. W. Sorrenson made jk ' courteous and capable M.C. A capital musical programme was con tributed, songs being given by Me'sdamci • T. C. Street and W. D. Linn, Miss .Will cox, Mr, Jenkins, Rev. Addenhrocke: comic songsJjjf, Messrs. Smith and Keys and recitation by W.
