EFFICIENCY TRUSTEES.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The weekly meeting of the New Plymouth trustees of the J-lfHeicney Board wils belli yesterday, there being present: -Messrs 'J'. I'urlong, jun. (chairman), E. Whittle, and P. J. Jlill (secretary). A considerable amount of business was transacted affecting the applicants whose cases were considered, some of which were from the country districts. Correspondence was received from the Efficiency Board Office, Wellington. One letter dealt with the allowances to widowed mothers and the amount that they were entitled toclaim. The separation allowance is fixed at lfls Od per week, provided her total property does not ex-, eeed cC'iOO in value and that her income from all sources was not more than 1,7s per week. A letter was also received dealing with the board's policy in regard to the rmyment of insurance premiums and the war loading, if any, on the full sum assured under policies taken out prior to the enlistment of a soldier or to his being called up by ballot, subject, of course, to the circumstances warranting a grant of .financial assistance. Full particulars in connection with the matter may be had from the secretary. A letter was received from a resident of the district asking that if any case should come under the notice of the fioard in which a reservist required a manager for a business, or anyone to take over the same, his services were available, and lie was prepared to offer £."00 security. The secretary of the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board wrote in reference to reservists' affairs, and also thanked the local trustees for information supplied to them. A reply was ordered to he sent to the manager of a local factory who had made inquiries in connection with (lie calling up of one of his head employees, and the board anticipates that the full explanation tendered will relieve the applicant of all anxiety as to the position of his business. A North Taranaki settler waited on (he trustees in reference to placing his farm of fid.V acres, o.r.p. leasehold, at the disposal of the Government for relumed soldiers at a reasonable figure. A*n area of 450 acres is in grass, and the rest in medium standing bush. For the past five years the farm had been grazing cattle and sheep, and previous to that was used for dairying. A number of applicants, including several ladies, waited on the trustees for information in regard to financial ■assistance for relatives called up and now in camp.
