In the recent list of appointments oi officers for duty on a hospital shipap* pears the name of. Captain W. M. Thoia< son, M.D., of Hawera. Mr. T. C. Street, of Okato, has ri a ceived word that Ma brother, Lanes* Corporal H. H. Street, who enlisted from Australia, and recently gained the Military Medad, has been killed in aetyon. Mr. C„ H. Wynyftrd, who for the last two years liag been a valued member of the New Plymouth Boys' High School teaching staff, is taking over the accountancy practice of Mr; W. M. Falconer, who leaves shortly to join a wellknown Wangonui firm. Mr. R. A. Chisholm, who died at Invercargill, was for thirty years manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Timaru, and subsequently manager for five years at Invercargill, He retired from the bank's service nearly twenty yeaTß ago. One son, Mr. James Chisholm, is manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Hunterville. News was received in New Plymouth on Wednesday that the Bev. S. J; Serpen had died at the Thames. The deceased, who was the New Zealand president of the Methodist Church 'in ' 1914, joined the "Methodist Church in Victoria in 1883, and came to New Zealand in 1891.. .He yi as stationed at Auckland, Thames, New Plymouth, Titnaru, Taratiaki Street (Wellington), Masterton and, at the' time of his death, at Thames. His death will be deeply regretted by very ;ifl'any in New Plymouth and district. As pastor of the local Methodist Church he was beloved by all its members and adherents. His passing recalls acts of kindness and sympi'thy- 1 extended by ham. His disposition and httnfiely, but withal he was'a strong personality, As a, preacher he was thoughtful, able and inspiring. His death causes-a- big breach in the ranks-of the Mtthoilißt ministry of New Zealand.
