THE NEXT BALLOT.

CLASS D MEN IN NOVEMBER (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington, My 8. Hie announcement Mint the number of men to be drawn in this month's ballot is 5000, half the number drawn last month, makes it clear that th* Teeafvista now remaining in Class C, Second Division, will be sufficient for the July, August and September draws. The recruiting authorities called 10,000 Class B reservists in April, 8000 Class B reservists in May and 10,000 Class C reservists in June. This number were supplemented 'by accretions to the First Division and Class A of the Second Division, and the total number of men called for service in April, May and June was in the neighbourhood of 30,000. It is considered now that the increased demand for recruits caused by the enlargement of the reinforcements in April, after the beginning of the great German offensive, has been overtaken. Very many of the fit men among the 30,000 have not yet become available for concentration in camp, but the list for future drafts are in good condition and a flow of recruits fpr many months ahead has been assured. The August and September drafts, as already stated, are emphatically full. The number of men at present remaining in Class 0 is about 10,000. There is reason to believe that in spite of many reminders some'of these men have omitted to inform the Government statistician of changes of address and additions to families. They will save themselves and the recruiting authorities trouble if they do their duty now, by making sure that the Government Statistician has the correct address and the proper classification. The roll of the Second Devision can be consulted at any post office. The first call on Class D (men with three children) may not be made before November. The arrangements depend largely upon shipping and casualties The New Zealand Division has suffered very light casualties so far this year, but there is much heavy figfating still to be done and though the reserves are large they are not inexhaustible.
