THE COUNTRY'S INTERESTS.
To the Editor. Sir,—As a Second Division man I should like to know what the country people expect to gain by increasing the pay of dependents. As every one knows who has thought the matter out, all taxes must come off the land directly or indirectly. That being the case, who is going to pay the extra but the farmer and later on the farmers' wives? Another matter which U not in the interest of this Dominion is the way some farmers are meeting the Land and Income tax. Several farmers in this locality have gone out of milking, because, they say: "Why slave, when the Government are taking it from us?''
