He id charged that, while a prisoner of war at Limburglahn camp, he voluntarily served the Irish brigade, formed and maintained by the German Government, and also with endeavoring te) persuade other prisoners to join. Finally, he took a certain course with the 'enemy naval forces and landed in Ireland. Mr-.Bodkin, K.C., prosecuting counsel, Mid that prisoner, in 1907, transferred from the Connaught Rangers to the reserve. He wa r , called up at the outbreak of the war, and accompanied the original Expeditionary Force 'to France, where he was prisonered- The Germans planned to concentrate the Irish prisoners at Limberglahn, and 2000 were there at the end of December, 1914. They were well treated. Prisoner and three ether* (Quinless, Keogfa, and Bailey) stood out prominently among the prisonera. Ovale**, Keogh. and Dowling seemed to be acting together, jn concert with 'Casement Counsel said that prisoner explained that he was washed ashore from a torpedoed vessel. Dowling went to a bank and changed £3l in silver into Irish notes. Counsel added there was little doubt he was allowed to come' 1 over to participate in the armed rebellion in Ireland. Dowling is a slight, pale-faced youth, ill civilian clothes, and attended by a guard with loaded revolver'* Accuses ! Massed very nervous at first.
