ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

AN EYE LOST THROUGH FIREWOOD CHOPPING. A serious accident befel Mrs. Autridge, of Westown, on Friday last. She was staying in the country at the time, and whilst engaged in chopping some firewood a chip flew up and struck her in the eye, which was badly injured. Unfortunately Mrs. Autridge was not able to receive surgical attention until Sunday night, when she was admitted to the New Plymouth hospital, where it was found necessary to remove the eye. She was reported last night to be as well as could be expected. A FRACTURED SHOULDER. Lance-Corporal Pearce, a returned soldier, of Mangorei, was admitted to the New Plymouth hospital yesterday, having sustained a fracture of the left shoulder. Replies to an inquiry last night indicated that he was progressing satisfactorily.
