DEFEAT OF GERMANS AND FINNS. Copenhagen. July 6. A German aeroplane with three aviators landed on the island of Masnedoe, declaring that they had descended owing to lack of petrol. They were evidently deserting, as they refused to depart when the German consul sent petrol. It is reported from northern Norway that the Czecho-Slovak troops completely defeated 3000 Firms and Germans near Kondale.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. KEEPING UP AN ILLUSION. Berne, July 7. In the Reichstag debate on the navy estimates, Admiral von Capelle claimed that the submarine weapon mi increasing in strength. He declared that the feures quoted by the British and French Ministers were untrue. Enemy tonnage was constantly decreasing owing to the sinking, while the enemy requirements in tonnage were increasing. The German submarines, like the German armies, would secure victory,.—Aus. N.Z.
