HORFOk'D ROA1), (From Our Own Correspondent.) The under-mentioned ladies' committee recently formed a sewing guild:—Mrs. Spence (chairwoman), Mrs. Vickers (secretary and treasurer), Mesdarnes Loveridge, William, Taylor, and Wood. Although some of the ladies have journeyed to Omata for the past two years to help with the sewing there, it was thought, more convenient to form a subcommittee and hand in their work to New Plymouth. To obtain money to buy material for starting the work, a suchre party and dance was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday, which resulted in a very enjoyaible and profitable evening 'being spent. A very nice prize of a silk handkerchief and lace collar, donated by Mr. White, draper, of New Plymouth, was won by Mr. and Mrs. Spence for euchre. Mr. A. Veal donated a tin of lollies, which accounted for a few shillings, whilst Mr- A. Wood donated a quarter of lamb, which, being" made the subject of a competition, brought in £l, Mr. J. Taylor being the lucky winner. Miss S. Spence, bv selling buttonholes, was helping to swell the banking account. During the evening Messrs T. A. Taylor and E. Williams pleased the audience with several songs. Mr. Riordan kindly supplied the music free of charge.
