GOLF.
The second Thursday round for the Standisli Cup competition was played on Thursday and resulted as follows: VV. P. Nicholl (8) beat Dr. Wade (11); A. S. Hassel (8) beat W. H. Wood (11); E. P. Webster (15) beat J Milne (11). E. IP. Webster plays A. S Hassel during the week end and the -winner plays W. P Nicoll, the final on Thursday next. In the final of the Saturday round to be played to-morrow, A. "Bewley (4) plays 11. H. Bloxam (15). Although the afternoon was far from ideal, Stratford coif enthusiasts mustered strongly, having two objects in view—to farewell Dr., Mrs. and Miss Paget, and to play a mixed foursome. In the absence of the president (Mr. Stanford) the duty of making the farewell! speech fell to Mr. H. Spence, and he inadt a capable substitute, and wound up an appropriate speech by presenting Miss Paget with a gold bangle, to commemorate their association with the club. Dr. 'Paget, in acknowledging the gift, expressed his appreciation of the kindly remarks mr.de by Mr. Spence as to his future welfare, congratulated the club on the increased membership and the lively interest being taken In the links, and trusted that after the war they would he able to resume their association. The competition In the mixed foursome was very good, quite a number of young players taking part.. The best cards handed in were:
