MILITARY SERVICE.
APPEALS AT HAWBRA. The board announced that in the cases of Francis J. Oliver and George 0. G. Willis, decision would be reserved sine die. The former sine die decision in the case of David M. Bourke was adhered to. The following appeals were adjourned: —C. T. Jones, W. D. Xnowles (Midhirst) G. B. Hill (Rowan), G. L. Prout (Waverhf), James 0 Falnreatber (Patea), Leslie G. Barker (Awatuna), Wilfred Hine (Mate): Decision was reserved sine die in the following cases:—Robert Hegan (MatsP»). Thos. H. Feaver (Hunter Road, Eltham), Cha«. M'Guinn (TOangamomona). Alfred J. Hodges (Ngatoro), David P. Johns (Okaiawa). Leave was granted to the following appellants:—Edward Thomas (Okaia wa), till September draft; William J. Hollis (Okaiawa), till November draft; (John Dobson (Whakamara), sine die; Vilicroy H. E. Ames (Kaimata), till Sep* temher draft; Alfred DaVies (Patea), till Ot-Vui.., draft} Leonard uM. Sheard, till August CI draft. George Charles Garlick Willis (Mr. O'Dea), who appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship, gave evidence that he owned a farm of 61 acres, on which he was milking 36 cows; many of tb.em, grade Shorthorns, averaged about £3O per cow. He had no assistance on the farm. Appellant showed that his family had a good military record. When, cross-examined by Captain Wiflker, tlte appellant said he would not leave his farm if he could- He said that he could not make the farm pay with sharemilkers, and did not propose to sell or lease it. He knew that a neighbor wanted to ibuy his farm, but he was determined not to let him do bo. (He could not make satisfactory terms for leasing it. Decision was reserved. Charles Thomas William Jones, blacksn.Hu, Manaia (Mr. O'Dea), appealed on the ground of undue hardship. In addition to his business, appellant hod a farm, on which share-milkers were milking 83 cows. Appellant had endeavored to sell his blacksmithing business. There was no one who could take charge of the business. Decision was reserved. (David Michael Bourke, farmer, Manaia (Mr. Powell), said there was no alteration in his circumstances. Decision wag reserved.—Abridged from Star
