SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

HAWERA BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Hawera branch of the Taranaki School Committees' Association was held yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs J. E- Murdoch (Hawera Technical College, in the chair). Johnston (Tokaora), A. Lees (Okaiawa), R. Hocks (Mokoia), A. H. Guy (Kaponga), R. S. Sage (Hawera District High School), Secretary C. Coad (Tc Roti), Tomlinson (Ohangai),B. Webby (Riverlea), H. J. Eaves (Otakcho), and Cochrane (Ohangai). Messrs R Masters (chairman of the Education Board), S. G. Smith (member of the hoard, and president of the School Committees' Association), together with A. P. Lister (member of the executive), and Cocker (Eltham executive) .vere also present. The chairman asked members; to consider whether the association should be carried on, as during the past year there had been a lack of interest'taken by many of the committees. Mr. S. G. Smith gave a very interesting address on the work carried on by the School Committees' Association, pointing out that as the result of united action they had obtained increased capitation from the Department In view ot the many problems to be solved in the future and the interest now being taken in edueaiional facilities throughout the Dominion, he thought the need for such associations was urgent. Mr. Sage stated that he would like to see the branch carried on, but the Hawera District High School and the Technical College committees could not bo expected to represent the opinion of the whole of the country districts, and they must be supported by the country committees. In connection with the shortage of teachers, he considered it might be possible to arrange to carry children to schools On the- motion of Messrs Johnston (Tokaora) and Lcei (Okaiawa), it was resolved to continue the branch. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. J. B. Murdoch (re-elect-ed); vice-president, Mr. A. T.eos (reelected); committee, Messrs Tomlinson (Ohangai), Coad (Tc Roti), Johnson (Tokaora), and Hicks (Mokoia;; secretary, Mr. R. S. Sage (re-elected). It was resolved to hold meetings quarterly, on the first Saturday in May, August, November, and February.
