IN AID OF WOUNDED SOLDIERS

HIGH SCHOOL' OLD GIRLS' CONCERT.The entertainment given in the Good Templar Hall last night, under tho auBpices of the New Plymouth High School Old GirLr Association* drew a large and appreciative audience. The first half of the programme, which was of a highclas 8 order, was opened,by Miss E. Armstrong, who played a pianoforte solo entitled "•Butterfly"," for- which she received an encore. Mr. A. 0. Sturrock also contributed two pianoforte solos, his first number being Leschtizky's Mazurka, and the encore was Sachmaninoff's Prelude. The vocalists included Mrs. M. J. Goodson (Hawera), who chose for her first song "A Dream," and for an encore "The Nightingale's, Song." She later aang Cadman's "I Hear a Thrush at Eve" and "The Wren." Miss M. Thomson sang "The Voice of Home" and "Just A-dreaming.' Mrs. Wilkes, whose first song was "Mountain Lovers," was accorded a double encore, and repeated the popular 'ln Springtime." Mr. V. \V. Morley gave a good rendering of "Till Death," and for an encore sang "Trooper Johnny Ludlow." Mr. N. Day appeared in "The Song of the Bow" (a request item), and responded to a recall with "Because."

The second'part of the programme consisted of a comedy in three acts, entitled "Only a Hoax," in which two young ladies, Whose parents reside in India, endeavor to administer, by means of a clever trick, a rebuke to the prying curiosity of their old maiden guardians. With tho assistance of the servant of the household and the keeper of a nearby inn, together with help from a few friends,.the wards succeed in thoroughly hoaxing their very staid and proper guardians, much to the chagrin of. the latter. The cast was well selected, and the parts were well maintained throughout. Misses Dora Bedford and Sybil Thomson played the parts of the guardians, Misses Mona Corkill and Elsie Billiard, the wards : Mrs Dell, the maid; Misses Laurie Mills and Marjorie Mouat, friend's of the wards; Miss (Norma Collins, keeper of the inn; and Misses Alice Brewster and Rtiby Clarke, visitors .to the-inn.
