President Wilson announced that American soldiers at horns etnd abroad will, in January, number four millions. More than a million American troops are now in France, of whom 270,000 were sent in June. Received July 4, 12.55 a.m. New York, July 3A munitions plant at Syracuse exploded. One hundred were killed.—Press Assoe. CONTROL OF RAILWAYS. Washington, July 2. Giving evidence before the House Committee, Mr. Daniels, Secretary for the Navy, and Mr. Baker, Secretary for the Army, advocated that the Government should retain control of the railways after the war.
