TJie Acting-Premier has received a message from Mr. Massey expressing deep regret at the loss of life resulting from the wreck of tlie Wimmera, and his sympathy with the relations and friends.

The Marine Department has instructed the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Auckland to hold a preliminary inquiry regarding the Wimmera disaster. On receipt of the evidence, the Department will decide whether a further inquiry is necessary

The Wellington office of Huddart, Parker and Company is advised by cable that the directors are subscribing £IOOO to the relief fund for sufferers by the Wimmera disaster.
