ROAD DISTRICT MERGER.
WAITARA WEST TO JOIN TARANAICI COUNTY.
In his monthly report at yesterday's meeting of the Tiuanakl County Council, the cfegirman (Mr J. S. Connett) referred to the movement for the merging of Uie Waitara West Road District into the county, and stated that, following the meeting of ratepayers held at Lepperton on .Tune 18, which by resolution approved the proposal, a petition had been circulated praying that the council Rive effect to the resolution, and the requisite number of .signatures had been secured.
When the <iucstlun arose later the chairman said lie thought steps should be taken to endeavor to induce the Moa Kond District to merge also, and thus make the county complete. He pointed out that ou account of the existence of the Moa Road District the county received only £IOOO per year in subsidy, £250 of which went to the Moa Uoad District, whereaa if they merged the county wojild be entitled to a subsidy of £1073, which meant that (he ratepayers were losing about £lo per week, independent of the management expenses (£01)3) of the Moa Uoad District, which would 'oe practically all saved. After a short discussion it was resolved to approach the• Moa Road Board on the question, and the chairman and Crs. Morton and rapper being appointed to wait on the board at Us next meeting.
