The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald announced yesterday that Mr. Reakes di, veetor of the Live Stock Division,'has been, appointed Director-General of Agriculture and Mr. F. S. Pope, who is now secretary of the Department, will bo assistant-director.

The members of the No. 1 Wellington District Military Service Board, consisting of Messrs D. G. A. Cooper, B.M (chairman), W- Perry, atod D. M'Laren, with the secretary (Mr. Walsh) and the military representative (Captain Q. Walker), arrived in New Plymouth last night.

The death of Mrs. A. Marsh, which took place at Egmont Village on Sunday, removes another of the pioneer settlers of the province. Deceased was 87 years of age, and came to New Plymouth with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. VY. Batten, in 1843, by the barqne Essex, Mrs. Marsh was married in 1850, and, with her husband, passed through all the vicissitudes of the Maori War. About the year IS7I they took up land on the Kent Road, where they have lived ever since. Mr. Marsh died some years ago. Of a family of eight children, four are still living, including Mrs. J. H. Allen, Tikorangi, and Messrs M. J George, and Arthur Marsh, who are all residents in the district. The deceased will be moutned Hv a wide circle of friends.
