DAIRY IPRODUCE TO BE CLEARED By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. Wellington, June 2'J. The National Dairy Association is advised by cable that arrangements arc being made to lift all butter in store in New Zealand. This may be set down roughly at 195,000 boxes, of which 128,000 are the property of the Imperial Supplies Department. The balance will be more than sufficient for local requirements for July and August and up to. September, when the new season's butter comes in.

CONSERVATION OF TIMBER. Wellington, June 29. The Hon. W. D. S. McDonald informed a deputation o£ the Timber Work, crs' Federation to-day that regulations are being prepared dealing with the whole subject of the conservation and export of timber. Sir Francis Bell had arranged for making a map showing the position of standing timber throughout the Dominion.

The late Mr A. H, Tumbull made a liobby of collecting books' and documents bearing oa Ne-w Zealand, and. is believed to have the finest collection o{ the kind in existence. He has be. queathed it to the King to constitute a reference library for Wellington. The conditions of use are left to the Government, which, is asked to take the- British Museum and Mitchell Library in Sydney aa a guide.. In order to house his collection Mr Tumbull recently built a brick residence, half of which is takea up withthe library.

Mount Ruapehu comtaenced emitting a hugo column of steam at ten o'clock this morning. The steam rises to a, height of aJbout a thousand feet, and is plainly visible from Taihape, some 4ffi mile 3 away, making an impressively brilliant sight. The emission apepars'to-be. on the north-western side.
