CAPTAIN HAWKINS, THE PROHIBITION CHAMPION.

To tie Editor. Sir,—l do not know Captain Hawkins, and lie admits he does not know me, but he hag drawn his aword to cut me down. I do not mind the sword, but I object to a gas attack. What I mean by a gas attack is when the Captain aska me "to get some intelligent friend," etc. Some people may think I am doing the Captain a good turn in advising him. Well, if he has earned his title I do not begrudge any money he gets from the Proes. The Captain refers to my opponent sitting in front of me with a routine ace high flush. I will ask the Captain were the cards cut or did he deal from the bottom? This remark about card playing make 3me think the Captain likes a drop of the crater, because card players require a drop when their luck is out to make them draw well. I feel honored when the Captain calls Mr Lloyd George my friend. I don't care what opinion Mr Lloyd George lias about prohibition. He is the kind of man we want, and if the Captain is within two stone (using a racoy phrase) of Mr Llovd George then he is a good fellow. .But I am afraid he is a man with only one eye, and therefore can only see one side of the picture. There is no doubt the Captain has his horns sharp and is going to rush everything called "boose."—l am etc., T). J. GOODWIN, Hawera, 28th June, 1918.
