Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] PATRIOTIC CONCERT AT ROWAN, The Rowan hall was crowded last evening, the occasion being a patriotic concert and dance. • Tho weather was anything but comfortable for those who moved out, but once in the hall every.ono thoroughly enjoyed the bill of fare. .All the items rendered were keenly appreciated, encores being numerous, the entertainment 'being voted one of the best ever given at Rowan. The occasion was utilised to welcome home Private Sullivan, a recent arrival from the front, the chairman (Mr. 'Maindonald) being the speaker. Private Sullivan was in gopd form for the reply, stating, amongst other things, that he was pleased to be back once more, but would be better pleased to see bis comrades in the trenches also homeward bound. Mr- C. H. Fox acted as accompanist, and also played for tho dance that followed, a guarantee that dancers had everything they could desire in this direction. The soloists were: Mrs. C. Carter, "Broken Doll," "Chinatown," etc.; Mr. Walters, "Bells of Peace," "King of the Night," etc.; Mr. C. H. Fox, "Down Where the Swanee River Flows," and others; Mr. Martin, "If? a Mouse"; instrumental ', items, MTjelland brothers; schoolgirls, "Please Give M« a- Penny." The comedy element was ' the capable hands of Mr. J. S. Rowe, and his mirthful budget wag keenly relished. Private Sullivan also gave an exhibition of the Cobbler's Dance. Daneing was kept going till an early hour, all present spending a very pleasant nightMr. A. C- Bell, who has been land salesman of the local brarfh of the New Zealand Loan and M.A. Company for several years, leaves Stratford shortly for Hamilton. During his stay here he has been an enthusiastic worker for St. Mary's School, and to-nieht, at the Parish Hall, is to be tendered a social evening, at which an enlarged photo (the work of J. M'Allister), of scholars, staff, and officials will be presented. There is a possibility that Mr. Bell may take up similar duties with his old firm at Hamilton that he has so successfully carried out here.
A reminder is given of the annual meeting of members of the Stratford A. and P. Association, to be held at 150 p.m. on Saturday in the Town Hall. Tho3e -who are interested are particularly invited to a'ttend. From the bal-ance-sheet, members can see that last year was a particularly successful one, and with the same energy and enthusiasm shown this year, there is every reason to anticipate similar results from the next Spring Show. The loyalty of all is particularly necessary just now Membership is being decreased through military necessity, and those who are exempted from their military obligations are urged to step into the breach caused by enlistments and keep the lively interest of the past still maintained.
T. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. Last Saturday my usual weekly sale was held, when a very good entry of poultry, furniture, produce, and sundries, etc., came to hand. Pullets and good hens were in very good demand. Pullets 5s to 7s, hens (old) Is to 2s 3d, ducks 2s to 2s 6d,; turkeys, hen Is, cockerels Is Od to 3s; potatoes 12s to 14s sack: pumpkins 3s 6d to 4s; onions 2 8 Od per bag; cabbage 2s to 3s dozen; apples to 8s case, others firm at market rates. Furniture and eundries at usual auction rates.
