FLOODS AT GORE.
CITIZENS' PREVENTIVE MEASURES. Gore, June 28. Citizens of every trade and calling, armed with spades and shovels, took the law into their own hands yesterday afternoon, and proceeded to prevent ivater coming through the railway culvert, which was the cause of the last two floods at Gore. The work was completed by evening, and by the morning the flood water had almost disappeared from the town. [ A meeting is to be held this afternoon to consider what steps shall he taken to prevent water coming through the culvert. Up to the present the de- ■. partment will not permit the erection of j any bank at the culvert, and previously ' indicated that it would take forcible steps to prevent any action benig taken. i ~ ' ~— .
