A MYSTERY SOLVED. By Telegraphs-Press Association. Wellington, Juno 34A message was received on Saturday from the Ferry Hotel, near the Wairarapa, Lake outlet, reporting that what appeared to be a capsized vessel was adrift in Palliscr Bay. The Government steamer Janie Seddon yesterday made a search, Irat without finding anything. The incoming steamer Himitahgi threw light on the matter by reporting that a large dead whale was lloating midway between the Wellington Heads and Cape Campbell. A rope was attached, and evidently the whale had been abandoned or broken adriftIt is believed that this may be what the Ferry Hotel people mistook for an overturned vessel. POACHING OPOSSUMS. Hokitika. Jukc 24, TVi'o constables, o n Saturday, found 140 opossum skins near Lake Kanieri. Two men were arrested in connection therewith, one being a soldier absent without leave from camp. Opossums are very numerous in the Lake Kanieri district, and considerable poaching was reported to be taking place. . / -i
