A HOPELESS MUDDLE. New York, Jnne 22. The New York World says that the" British Government practically confessed that the Irish question is in a hopeless muddle. The Government no longer has any Irish" policy. Ireland might possibly have been conciliated if the Government had shelved conscription and established Home Rule along the lines suggested by the Irish Convention, but the Government has displayed all the faults of indiscretion and impotence in this crisis.—Ans.-N.Z.
