Great puMic interest has been evinced in tlie case before Mr. Justice Hosting, at the Supreme Court, in which Henry Ewart Hill, of Gteteoroe, proceeded against lazarus Wolfe SBaßdnd, of 'Ghristcdinreh, a moneylender, for the recovery of £OOOO damages for alleged .slander. The evidence of plaintiff, who •was represented by Mr. L. T. Barnard, showed that Hill was agent in Gis/bonue for Balldnd, in connection with the latiter's money-lending (business. In May last, BaUtind came to Gisborne and went to ffilPs office, where he made use of the •words complained of, viz., "You stole my money. I say so, absolutely." The words were overheaid tky a clerk in Bißi employ, who took a note of them. :Mr. H. B- Lnsk, of N&pier (with him . :Mr. T. A. Coleman), appeared for defendant.
