NAPIER MEETING. FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, June 21. The Napier Park Racing Club's winter meeting opened in excellent weather, and with good going, there having been only a few showers for several days. The totalisator handled £19,100, an increaseof £'5076 on the same day last year. During the day there were two mishaps. In the second race, Waioture fell, and E. Copestake sustained a broken collarbone. The horse was not injured. The other mishap was in the big event, at the conclusion of which the aged gelding Braeburn, who. ran a gTeat race, fell down dead. Lord Nelson figures amongst the entries for tha Hawke's Bay Hurdles, A one-eyed horse, with a tendency to hang out, reads like a source of danger to the opposition in a hurdle event. The race was run on June 4 and was won by Lady J. Douglas's Gainsborough. Gainsborough, who recently won the Two Thousand Guineas, ' is said to be a perfect sample of the F,ng- ' lish thoroughbred. He was bred by his owner, Lady Douglas, a keen sportswoman, and an expert on all matters pertaining to the breeding and raising of race-liorses. She sent Gainsborough Into the sale ring as a yearling, but the reserve of 2500 guineas was not realised, 2000 guineas being the highest bid and the colt was retained. i
