EVERYBODY'S. "ITrHAPPENED TO'ADKT.K" Gladys Leslie, the-glrl with tho "million-dol-lar smile," • Is tho star of 'lt Happened to Adelo," the brilliant Pathe play now screening at Everybody's In conjunction with No. 5 series of "The Neglected Wife." Nothing quite like this plot has been seen upon the screen for some time. Adele Is the daughter of an actress who has fallen upon bad times. Adele, by quite an extraordinary accident, gets an engagement as a chorus girl, and then, by tho use of a clever advertising dodge, she gets right Into the public eye. She is loved by two meh—an opera composer and a steady, capable business man. The opera composer Is a young student from tho country who has left a sweetheart behind him, and is, after all, not In love with anybody but himself. The working-out of the romance is full of surprises. The story Is almost a guide to the stage, as It contains genuine peeps behind the scenes, and a truthful and full view of the lives of theatrical workers. The stage scenes in themselves are gems. Gladys Leslie is sunerb in the chief role, hut she has splendid support in the shape of dainty Peggy Burke, who acts the part of the level-headed chorus girl used to the world of men and their ways This programme Includes the third series of "The Neglected Wife" and the weekly budget of war news. THE EMPIRE. To-day - at The Empire tho favorite actress, Olga Petrovn will appear for the last time In the latest Metro wonderpiay, "The Silence Sellers." As a dramatic story It will he appreciated. Madame Petrova is as clever and beautiful as ever, and as a lesson of life tho Blcture should be welcome. Needless to say, tho picture is beautifully—even gorgeously—produced, many magniflcent scenes being introduced, and the gowns are up to the minute and wonderful in the eyes of all women. The final chapter of the thrilling serial, "Peg o' the Ring." will also be screened for the last time, together with other comedies and toplc&ls. "ENLIGHTEN THY DAUGHTER." Commencing on Monday, the "Enlightenment Corporation's" daring, fearless and outspoken picture, "Enlighten Thy Daughter," will be screened. This great production, which is In 7 reels, and occupies the entire evening, has as Its Impressive text, "Warn Your Daughter In Time." The story is not conventional It to a vivid and direct dealing with a grave problem. Whatever your views may be on the sex question, you must think well of the frank and sincere lesson of this great drama. The story concerns two girls—Ruth (whoso mother warned her of the world's pitfalls, and what might happen from the chance meeting with a "splendid chap"), and Lillian (whose mother kept her "just a pure, innocent child"). And Lillian, thus blindfolded, fell from the heights of purity to the depths of shame. And what of the man. In this daring, fearless, outspoken story you will find much enlightenment and food for thought Its screening here is limited to three nights. MONSTER EUCHRE PARTY: AMD DANCE. On Thursday next, June 27,. the TaranaW Agricultural Society is holding a. monster euchre party and dance In the Coronation Hall. Gill StTeet, New Plymouth, with the object of further adding to the funds of the society. Everything possible Is being done to ensure the success of the function. It is not the intenfon of the committee to carry on a euchre party, followed by a d&nee, but to have the cards and dancing going on- at the one • time, both commencing at 8 p.m. An orchestra of all, with Mrs. George at the piano, wilt supply the dance music. Capable M.C.V have been appointed from tho town and eountry districts, so that partners and sets will be arranged without delav. The floor, which is recognised as an excellent one for dancing when properly prepared, will receive the attention of experts in geUing It up. The supper arrangements will be in the capable hands of the ladles' committee. A BOft drinks stall will also be run by members of the committee. Every other detail so necessary to ensure comfort and enjoyment for patrons is receiving the committee's attention.
