Brldgeman, of Westown), have returned home. » • • • The engagement of Miss Mamie Free, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Free (New Plymouth), to Mr, Owen Harvell (Leicestershire, England) Is announced. The engagement Is announced of Captain Louis Botha, son of General Louis Botha, the South African Fremier, to Miss Agsle Macdonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Macdonald, of Ipley Manor, Marchwood, Hants, England. Captain Botha is acting as A.D.C.to Sir Douglas Haig. • • • • On the marriage of Brigadier-General A. Asquith, D.5.0., son of the ex-Prtrae Minister, to the Hon. Betty Manners, daughter of Lord and Lady Manners, a guard of honor was provided by New Zealand officers from Lord Manners' convalescent hospital, who formed an arch-. way with their swords. Lord Manners' hospital Is near Christchurch, and Is managed by the Hon. Angela Manners, who has seen a great deal of service in the war, and was captured by the Germans when they overran Belgium. It accommodates twenty or thirty officers belonging to the N.ZJBJ. BAG DOLL FAIR. The members of the New Plymouth Plonket Society have been working very energetically for some weeks past, and as a result of their labors, Intend holding a rag doll fair in the Good Templar Hall, next Thursday, June 27, which will be formally opened by the Mayoress (Mrs C. H. Burgess, M.B.E). The plan they have in view is to secure money to e<iulp the rooms for the Plunket nurse (Nurse Williams), who will arrive in New Plymouth on July 1. Admission to the fair will be free, and for the small Bum of 6d a delicious afternoon tea will be served. There will also be a baby stall, egg stall and produce nod rag doll stalls, and the goods will be priced at nominal figures, so as to meet the desire of every buyer. Each child In attendance Is requested to bring an egg, with name Inscribed, for which a free vote will be given In the guessing competition (guessing the name of a beautifully-dressed doll In a perambulator—the prize). During the afternoon, musical items will be given by a number of young ladles, who are well-known favorites in our musical circles.
