PUBLIC SERVICE COTPIBKENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Public Service Conference carried the following remits!—-That the Govcrnment be requested so to end the Public Service Act,, 1912, as to provide for the control of the service by a non-poli-tical .board in place of a commissioner and two assistant commissioners as at present, such board to include at least one member to be elected by the public servants who are members of the Public Service Association; that the Public Service Association, while recognising that amendments are still required in the system of commissioner control, express their keen disappointment of auy attempt made to revert to the former system of political control. IMPORTS ON LIQUOiRS. Wanganni, Last Night. The Borough Council to-night resolved* fliat this council wishes to place on record its strong disapiproval of the aqtion of the Government in permitting such large quantities of alcoholic liqiioij to be imported into the Dominion, resulting in the crowding oat of essential commodities.
