ANUQAIi MEKOTB. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Juno 16. The annual conference of the New Zealand Public Service Associatioivcommenced to-day. Mr. Albert (president), addrSssing the delegates, said that the membership had increased during the year by 333, making a total of 5490. Of these, 817 had left with the Expeditionary IPorcea. While they were away they would -be re. lieved of the payment of their contributions, which, in his opinion, was a very proper course, and it wag essential that they should consider the question of appointing a permanent general secretary. .Mr. F- W. Miller, general secretary, had done invaluable service, but was uiiaMe to devote his whole time to the -ffoift. Their relations with the Priblle ServieS Commissioner weTe motrfr amicablehad free and full opportunity of aeeeing him whenever they desire, and the Commissioner was always ready to hea* their representations and give tliem consideration- Among matters to be dealt with were the position of meniSjers of\ the police forco joining the asaociatioti, and the eataiblrabnient of stores.
