REGIMENTAL FUNDS.

To the Editor. .Sir,—l would crave your indulgence to make knwn the following facts through your columns in connection with the funds mentioned. The Advisory Board of the Federation of New Zealand Patriotic War Relief Societies, has taken in hand the collection from patriotic societies throughout the Dominion funds to be forwarded to the recognised authorities m the different theatres of war where our troops are operat.'ng, to augment regimental funds and also to assist our men when on leave in London. The regimental funds will be under the supervision of commanding officers on the several fronts and will be spent on Lhe purchase of fresh vegetables, milk, 'butter, and fruit together with other desirable commodities when procurable, thus building up the army ration to make it as palatable and sustaining as possible. The additions to the ordinary ration as mentioned above are very much appreciated by our men. When practicable, entertainment also is provided for the men from this fund. In the case of men on leave in London, the money for this purpose will be forwar led to '.he War Contingent Association and will 'bo spent in providing the men with refreshment, lodging, change of clothing, t;tc. In the past, efforts on behalf of lioth these funds have been of a more or less spasmodic nature, and without the assistance of a representative body like the Advisory Board. When communicating with patriotic societies asking for contributions to regimental funds, the V\on. secretary of the Advisory Board stated, inter alia, "The board came to its decision after being fully satisfied that regimental funds are urgently required, and that they are well administered." The amount to be contributed by Taranaki is comparatively small, being, regimental fund £777 per annum, and war contingent fund £465 per annum; the moiey will be paid in three instalments during the year, each of £259 und £155 respectively." In subscribing money for these funds the public may rest assured that every precaution will be taken to ensure the money being well spent in the direction for which it is allocated.—l am, etc., W. P. KffiKWOOD, Chairman, Taranaki "Provincial War Belief Association.
