BRUSH WITH U-BOAT. AMERICAN CHASER ACCOUNTS FOR THE PIRATE. Received June 13, 2.43 p.m. Washington, June 12. It is dot practically certain if the submarine chaser sank a U-boat on June S. oft the Virginia coast. The chaser suddenly encountered a submarine, whose periscope was showing The vessels circled each other for several minutes at a hundred yards distance, and then the chaser made a dash over the U-boat and dropped a depth bomb. The periscope disappeared and oil rose to the surface. The explosion lifted up the chaser. It, is reported that three German sailors' caips wore found in the vicinity.— Press Assoc.
TWO AUSTRIAN DREADNOUGHTS. SUNK BY ITALIAN TORPEDO-BOATS. New York, June 12. A United Press message from Rome reports that it is officially announced that two Italian torpedo boats sank two Austrian dreadnoughts off the Dalmatian islands on Juno 10.—Press Assoc. FISHING BOATS SUNK. London, June 12. Seventeen fishing boats were sunk off tlie coast of County Down (Ireland) on May 31. The submarine commander ordered the crews to take to the boats. Some remonstrated and the commander replied: "No parleying; get in or you go to hell." He shot one man through the arm.—Times. OPERATIONS Of U-BOAT New York, June 12. A U-boat looted and sank the steamer Vindeggen in American waters on Monday, and also sank the steamer Hendrik Lund.—'Press Assoc.
