Despite the unfavorable weather, there was a splendid attendance at the Winter Show yesterday for People's Day, and visitors found much to interest, instruct, and amuse them, and expressions of opinion Were general as to the excellence of tie majority of the exhibits. last night there was a crowded attendance, and the splendid programme submitted by the Citizens' Band, under Mr. F. W- G. M*Leod, evoked general applause.

MANGEL ACREAGE. Mangel field root acreage competition; three roots grown on the half acre judged to be exhibited at show. First prize, £3 3s; second, £2 2s; third, £1 Is. A, might; B, firmness, qnalltr; C, cultivation: D, evenness, might; E, total.

SWEDES. District swedes acreage competition, each district to selqpt three of the beat cropa in the district, and two roots from each crop to be entered at the show. The winning croO yledled 69.15 tons per ase. In the results of Webb's Superlative swede competition, as published yesterday, T. M"Kenzie (Tikorangi) was placed third. The judges have since reversed the figures, with the result that L. Andrews secures" third place by .04 points. Mr. A. Sheard (TJrenui) was awarded special prizes for carrots, three roots (Sutton's), mangel wurzel (heaviest), and mangel wurzel (two roots).

POULTRY. Each year sees additional interest taken in the poultry section, this year's benching easily establishing a record in numbers, whilst the quality shows a decided improvement. By far the most popular class are the American Leghorns, there being no less than 21 exhibits in some of these sections. English Leghorns have also filled well- The North Island Championship was allotted to Wyandottea, and in this there was competition from all parts of Taranaki, as well as from H&Vke's Bay, the championship going to a golden cockerel owned by W. Parker, of Waitara, the bird being a particularly nice specimen and well shown. The North Island Championship was allotted to Indian runner ducks, and was won hy Stewart and Landsperg, of Normarfby. Mr. S. J. Smith's £5 5s cup for thfc best bird in the show was won by W. Hall with a silver Wyandotte hen, the judge commenting on its perfect marking- In pigeons, Mr. H- J. Moverley agiain secured the championship with a bird that annexed the North Island championship in 1916. The judge, Mr. S. Johnson, of B*l- - North, had a particularly busy day. So numerous were the entries aftd so close the quality that it was about 6.30 p.m. before he was able to complete his arduous task, which lie commenced about 10 a.m.. Remits:— GAME.
