THE GOLD INDUSTRY. Received June 13, 8.5 p.m. Capetown, June 12. Giving evidence at the Hand strike inquiry, the president of the Chamber of Mines said the gold industry had reached the limit as to what could be done in regard to wages and working cost. If further burdens were imposed on the industry the prosperity of the Rand would be destroyed and the prosperity of South Africa, jeopardised, —Press Association.
