ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Eltharn, June 13. At the installation of officers of the Druids' Lodge last evening, three of the brethren (Messrs Parrott, Randell and Rudkin) were closely associated in the Homeland, all coming from the Notts County. In the introduction to a recitation, "Bendigo," Mr. Parrott stated that the Australian town of that name was so called after a celebrity of Notts, who, in his early days, was a noted pugilist, and later on became a pulpit preacher. So much esteemed was the man that on his death a memorial was erected to his memory, and was one of the finest in one of the county cemeteries. The recitation was very striking, indicating that the author thoroughly understood the nature of the man who became a practical illustration of muscular Christianity. Information has been received that Private J- Maddook, well-known in Elthsun, who left with the 33rd Reinforcements, is missing. His parents resided here for many years, but are now in the Wellington district. Hawera hockey players were too strong for Eltham in the game played yesterday, the boya from our southern towns winning by 6 goals to 2. A fair number of Elthamites visited New Plymouth this morning. More would have made the journey had the weaither been a little more reasonable and less seasonable.
