LAND for volunteers. JUKE BOLE A SUBJECT FOB TEE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. Beceived June 12, 9.35 pjn. ' London, June 11. ifaplying to questions residing Lord fna&a proclamation promising volunteer recruits land, Mr Samuels, Irish Attoney-General, said tie Irish Land Purchase Act would be amended to enable all Irish soldiers to have the same privileges as to the purchase of untenanted land as existing holders. The British Act assisting soldiers to secure lad will also be applied to Ireland. Hie Westminster Gazette dissents from Sir George Beid's letter. It considers the Irish question is not purely a domestic concern for the United Kingdom, saying: "We unreservedly are of General Smuts' opinion that it should be ruled within the function of the conference. He Irish question has enormous importUoi for the Dominions, and the British people should be induced to regard it as an Imperial and not a domestic matter. If we attempt to draw tip a mechanical OUMtitution the Empire will reach inestricable difficulties, but the annual reassemblies of the standing committee ot the Empire will result in a group of subjects being gradually sorted out which it would be unconstitutional to deal with except by reference to the Imperial conference. A written constitution must follow and not be preceded by fact."— turn Auoc.
