MINE-WORKERS' WAGES. Received June 11, 8.50 pan. Capetown June 10. In connection with the demands of tihe Rand mine workers, the Chamber of Mines Jiaa agreed to a minimum of 20s per shift under certain conditions They point out that many of the mines which are working at a small margin of profit are closing down as the result of the increased wages. The natives are joining in the demand for increased wages, and as 200,000 natives are employed in the Rand, this will be a serious factor,Press Assoc Received June 11, 9.13 p.m. Johannesburg, June 10 There is serious la.bor Unrest among tile South African mine workers, the union declining the suggestion of the federated trades to afait the formulation of the demands of kindred unions, and are insisting on their demands being immediately met. The principal demand is a 25 per cent, increase in Wages, owing to tlie cost of living", and irrespective of the present sliding scale and war bonus The natives employed by the Municipal Council have also demanded an increase of sixpence' daily. The demand was refused. One hundred and fifty were arrested and sentenced to two months, and ordered to continue the solitary work under armed guards.-* Pi.'ss Assoc. DEPENDENTS' ALLOWANCES. Received Jane 11, 1150 p.m. Pretoria, June 10. The union has decided to augment by rt shilling daily as from April 1 the a 1» 'owance to wives and dependents of the union, rontingent upon serving outside of the Union of South Africa.
