New Plvmoutb. when Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., presided, judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following cases:—F H. F Washbourne (Mr A. A. Bennett) v. Ware Te ;Pu, £llO 19s 3d (costs £0 9a); B. R Leech v. F. P Keenan. 19s 6d (costs as); J, B. McEwan and Co, (Mr. A. H. Johnstone) v Josepli Roguski, £5 (costs £1 Os 6d). During the hearing of an appeal at yesterday's sittings of the Military Service Board at New Plymouth, in which a widow was appealing for her son on the ground that she could not carry on a dairy farm and milk 24 cows without him, a member of the board pointed out that at Hawera, a woman of 60 years of age came before the board, and stated that she had undertaken the milking on her farm in order to release her son for service. The day she appeared before the board she had milked 30 cows by hand. Such heroism was worthy of the Victoria Cross.
