FOOTBALL.

CIVIL SERVICE v. BANKS AND INSURANCE OFFICES. A match was played on the racecourse grounds on Saturday afternoon between teams representing the New Plymouth banks aud insurance offices and the Civil Service. Civil Service kicked off, facing the sun, but with a light breeze behind them. For the first half play was even, and neither side scored. On changing ends the commercial representatives set up a vigorous attack, and for the most part play was in the Civil Service territory. Early In the half a goal was scored from a mark, Sutherland placing a good kick. From then ou the Civil Service, although they made repeated attempts, were never able to endanger their opponents' line. Two tries were scored for the banks and Insurance team —one each by Leplne and Hughes. The attempt to add the major points failed in each case. The points were: Banks, 9; Civil Service, 0. Mr. Ryder was referee.
