SCHOLARSHIPS AND TRAINING SHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The conditions to govern the Sandersmemorial scholarship were agreed upon at a meeting of tho general committee, at which the Mayor presided. The flnal scheme approved was that the Government be asked to commission a merchant sailing ship as a training ship, to be named tho "W- E. Sanders," tobe employed m freighting cargo to and from New Zealand, the vessel to -carry as apprentices New Zealanders of British parentage desirous of entering the merchant services as officers, the places to be retained for Sanders' Memorial Scholarship boys, and to be increased in accordance "with 1 the state. of the' fund. The amount available for th*' scholarship ia to be invested by the trustees until the arrangements for the proposed training ship are completed. In the event of 'this not being done within two years after the declaration of peace, the trustees to I>e authorised to apply the money subscribed'for advancement m the mercantile marine of New Zealand born boys of British parentage. The accepted scheme also provided for scholarship examinations to be held annually and be available to all New Zealand born boys of British parentage.
