[ (From Our Own Correspondent.)' [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] Stratford, June C. There was a fair attendance of dancers fit the social held at the Kahouri Hall last nigM, tiie floor being crowded. Very acceptable vocal items were rendered by Misses Sangster and Johnstone and Messrs Walters and Aitken. The duties of M/sC were ably fulfilled by Messrs J. Bonnor and Xeilson, whilst Mrs. Bianchi (piano) and Mr- S. Parker (cornet) were Very pleasing with the music, dancing being kept up to an early hour. The Stratford Card Club are having no trouble in finding engagements. Last evening they had a bout with the numbers of the Fire Brigade, and, after some Interesting play, victory went to the club by,a margin of five games. Ngaere settlers are due for a challenge game on Friday evening The question of keeping up the teaching efficiency of the Stratford School has been perplexing of late. One by one the male teachers have heard the call and forsaken the training of the youthful mind in the effort of subduing more stiJUborn material in Europe. The resignation of Mr Bowler created a vacancy, and this was considered at a meeting of the School Committee held last evening, Mr. Boon, chairman, presiding. After some discussion, it was resolved to select Miss Sage as first assistant, Miss Caiquhoun second, Miss Lovell-Snrith third, Miss Gemhoefer fourth, and Miss Chapman fifth assistants. The meeting was a special one, and after these selections the members adjourned. I desire t* eongratulajte the Stratford ladies on their success in the recent hockey tournament at Bawera. They had a great record that day—four wins and three drawn games. The secret of their success lay in tho enthusiasm of all in the game. To-day, at the football match, a number of ladies were present", but, whilst they saw a portion of Rugby, they also had a fair practice at hockey. T LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT.
