The iioaiii occurred at Basting's on Thursday last of' Mr. Daniel M'DuffBoyd, aged GO years. Mr. M'Duff-Eoyd. ffts for many years one of tie besltknown musiciana oi Wellington. For the past eighteen yars he had been a resident of Hastings. Mr. Enoch Tonks, one of Wellington's oldest identities, died on Friday night, after a long illness, at the advances age of 79 years (says the Post). The lace Mr. Tonka was a native of Staffordshire, England, and came out to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Birman, arriving in Wellington in 1942. An Opotiki'press message reports the death of Mr. James Connor, a veteran of the Crimean and Maori Wars, aged 83. He was born in Ireland, enlisted in the Imperial Army at an early age, served in the Crimean War, participating in the battles of Alma, Balaclava and Inkermann, and then proceeded to India with his regiment. He assisted in restoring order following on the mutiny, his service in India lasting several years. He came to New Zealand in ISOI, and served in the Maori War, participating in the attack on the Gate Pa, Tauranga. After obtaining his discharge, he went to Opotiki in 1866, and participated in the stirring incidents of that district, and then settled on a section of land, which he farmed up to the date of his decease.
