FIVE SUBMARINES OPERATING j 42 SURVIVORS LAND Received June 4, 8.5 p.m. New York, June 3. Forty-tvo survivors have landed, after being prisoner for eleven days on bonrd German submarines. The naval authorities believe there are five submarines operating. There is no news of the fate of the passengers of the City of Columbus. Forty-eight survivors have been landed. They stated they were aboard a submarine for eight days.—Press Assoc. A BIG LIST. OF FISHING BOATS AND SAILERS ONE SUBMARINE CAUGHT. Received June 4, 11.36 p.m. New York, Jun<> 3. j The Tribune states that Bixty fishing | smack . carrying 400 fishermen, were sunk by submarines. Three wrecked j steamers were found on the New Jersey ' coast.
Other vessels officially reported to be sunk are: Edward H. Cole, Hattie Dunn, Samuel Hathaway, California, Jacob Haskell, Isabella Willey, and Herbert 'Pratt.
Captain Xowcombe, of the Cole, stared that the submarine which attacked him rais two hundred feet long and carried two large guns, one forward and one aft, with a smaller gnn amidships It is reported that one of the submarines has been caught and i 3 being taken to New York by naval vessels.— Reuter. YANKEE HUSTLE. DESTROYERS IN 17% DAYS. Received June 4, 5.5 p.m. Washington, June 3. A Californian shipyard has launched a destroyer in 17J days, a world's record. The hull was 84 per cent, completed. The previous record was 27 days.—Press Assoc. DUTCH STEAMER SUNK. Received June 4, 8.30 p.m. New York, June 4. The Dutch steamer Texel, of 7000 tons, has been sunk sixty miles off New York. AH on board were saved.—Press Assoc.
