Splendid acceptances have been received for the first day of the Otaki Racing Club's winter meeting, which takes place to-day and to-morrow. Tffia course lias dried up, and racing promises to be most interesting. Scratchings may reduce the field in the Raukawa Cup, but Turangapito, Paraoa and Bagdad are likely starters. Hydrus disappointed punters at Wanganui, but may be the best of them to-day. A good class of sprinters is engaged in the Rsvhui Handicap, though Rawa : kore and Rude may scare some of the top-weights out of itPrimato and Genskus should represent Taranaki well in the Maiden, and Piano will command support in the Flying Hack Handicap. Flying Gowrie was unlucky to lose at Wanganui, and may keep Pia.no very busy The Hack Steeples looks very open. Arlington is a safe conveyance, and may start first favoorite. Lord Nelson and MEI Queen shapd, well enough last week to ensure them support in the Otaki Hack Handicap, and the public will not allow Arrowfield to pay a false price in the Birthday Welter, though Primato, if reserved, will have a good following. The Auckland meeting wffi be concluded at Ellersic to-day. Taranaki will !)o better represented to-day, the addition of Sandy Paul and Royal Chief addin» to the strength of the team. Trainer R. J. Mason leaves shortly for Australia with Eleus, Gloaming, a couple of youngsters—and Biplane! Fionnuala dropped dead at Elleislie on returning from Wanganui.
