SITUATION SERIOUS BUT NOT DISQUIETING. The Marne Bridgeheads. French Solidly Holding. Germans Endeavoring to Swing Westward. Received June 3, 12.55 a.m. London, June 1. The French are solidly holding the bridgeheads crossing the Marne, checking the Germans, who retired from the north bank to the rear of the plateau. They are endeavoring to swing the attack westward towards Paris. Paris semi-official—The battle line runs approximately past the following points: Pommiers, two kilometres northwest of Soissons, Mercinctvaux, Missv-aux-Bois, Villershel, Bois Villeraheion, Louatre, Villers le Petit, Chouy, east of Melullyslut, in front of Breny Rocourt, east of Chateau Thierry and C'har Treves, and then along the course of the Marne as far as Vincelles, north of Dormans, Venneuil, Olizy, Violaine, Ville en Tardenois, Bligny, St. Kuphrase, Coulomness, Thellois and Usieres, north of Rheims.
