WANGANUI SESSIONS, By Telegraph.—Press Aumvlatioy, . Wanganui, May 31. Kefemng to the amount of drinking which takes place in the Main Trunk district, Sir Robert Stout, at the Supreme Court, said it was a to the Dominion that drinking should take place in a no-license district in whiih the Government had agreed that the Maoris would be entirely free from the curse. It was a great pity to see working men spending their money in drunken orgies In that district. In the Karioi manslaughter case, John Robertson was sentenced to ten ' years' imprisonment, and seven years': reformative treatment to follw. Turi Wharemati, for carnally knowing a girl under the age of consent, was admitted to probation. His Honor said it was the first case of the kind' he bad so treated, but in his opinion prisoner was not so much to blame as the grand< mother of the girl. Wm. Alfred War* , ner, who pleaded guilty at New Ely Mouth to theft of money, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment. Pnkeke Hune, for forgery, was ordered to come ; up for sentence when called upon, lie having volunteered for service at th»* front.
