THE GREY BY-ELECTION.

' The polling for the Grey by-election is, so far, as follows: Holland (tLalbor) • 2640 Ooaites (Liberal) 2306 There are six small returns to comae and 150 absentee votes. Liter. The election was conducted in a pw»t orderly manner. Motor-cars were in great evidence, with colors flying everywhere. Tea minutes after the poll closed returns commenced to come in, and Coates held a commanding lead until the returns from the mines cfume in, which put a different complexion on the result. The final 'figures are:— Holland 2840 Ooates 2326 The three small returns to come Cannot alter the result. Both candidates returned thanks. The majority for Holland is 214. ; THE FESTAL FIGURES. ; The final figures are:—Holland sßj>3, Coates 2643, a majority of 210, with l one return to come, but not of consequence. The 103 absent voters' permits cannot alter the resultMr. Holland, in returning thanks, said that ag soon as Webb was <t free m|in he would resign his seat. Messrs Paul and Walker also spoke. The party commences a political campaign at Hofcitika to-niglit in the Labor interest, and will continue it throughout New Zealand. There were 800 less votes polled to-day. Webb's majority was reduced by 7«6.
