GOOD CROPS EXPECTED. London, May 27. Farmers throughout the country anticipate an excellent, perhaps a record, crop. Mr. Prothero, speaking at Bedford, said that the acreage was the highest on record, hut owing to the withdrawal of half a million laborers there was a danger of a labor shortage. He appealed to women to replace men. The Ministry of National Service has completed a scheme for employing school boy 3 in harvesting.—Aus. N.Z. Caljle Assoc. FOOD ECONOMY NECESSARY. London, May 27. Mr. J. R. Clynes, M.P., at Manchester, said that besides heavy manual workers there were others, for example women, who deserved increased rations. Ho hoped that soon there would be sufficient to enable it to be done. We could anticipate a continuance of supplies for a considerable period, but economy was still necessary to ensure safety.—Aus.
